What am I?

I love your site. I am interested in your thoughts about a person who really wants to believe in (a) God but I just can’t find a way around the complete lack of logic in the whole faith thing. I would so like the comfort and security that there is a god but it just doesn’t make any sense to think that there is some supreme singular being listening to each and every one of us. Am I an atheist or agnostic or what???

If you don’t believe in God, that makes you an atheist.

If you wish that there was some magical force that you could rely on to bring comfort and security, that makes you a human.

If you are unwilling to sidestep reason just to fulfill your emotional needs, that makes you intellectually honest.

In my opinion, all of these are good things.

I, too, would love to know that there is life after death, that justice is always fulfilled, and that everything is for a purpose. I also would love to win the lottery. Sadly, I think the odds of winning the lottery are far better than the odds that any religion is true.

You sound like an exceptional person. I hope you appreciate yourself sufficiently.
