Hallo, I haven’t been to your site in quite a while but I just now decided to pop in and say hi. Hi!I also wanted to say that your blog was pretty instrumental in how I shaped my views on morality and atheism, and also helped clear away some misconceptions I had regarding atheism and theism and I thank you very much for that.

Your blog is the only one I’ve seen that puts real effort in answering the questions of theists and atheists alike, especially in such a conversational way. It really helps people see past the labels and understand what we’re all about.

Believe it or not, I hear many of the same things from people and I’m a Christian! Funny, huh?

Well, *I* think I’m a Christian. But apparently I’m not the RIGHT kind of Christian. Or I believe in a different Jesus Christ, although I thought there was only one….

Anyhoo, just wanted to let you know that I can relate with much of this site, and agree with a lot of it too. (The parts about thinking for yourself and doing the right things for the right reasons, etc.)

I’m glad that you see the humor in my site. It’s not intended as an insult to Christians in general or to religion, but rather as a tease aimed at those who argue religion in ignorance. You obviously got the joke.

It’s interesting that you brought up being the “right” kind of Christian. Christian religions believe that there was only one Jesus, but some of the concepts of Jesus they have are pretty mutually exclusive. The Catholic and Protestant views are pretty close, with the real big difference being in how Jesus brought salvation. The Mormon Jesus is metaphysically very different from the Catholic and Protestant version, to the point that I think you might be able to argue that it’s not even the same person. And followers of Islam believe in Jesus, but in a very different way than Christians do (obviously).

So far as I’m concerned, any Christian who is moral and thoughtful is the “right” kind of Christian. It was nice to hear from you!

I was reading through your hate mail section and it struck me how awful these so called “moral” folks are. Granted, this is probably a very small cross section of religious people, but it’s pretty inexcusable. I’m not sure I could keep my cool in responding to those messages.

I don’t know about “hero,” but I sure appreciate the thought. It certainly isn’t easy to remain calm in the face of some of this stuff, though.

Hey, i just stumbled upon your website and i happen to love it. I think this website is doing the internet a community a huge favor, especially by displaying nearly total tolerance for blind ignorance. The only thing i can say to improve is to be COMPLETELY tolerant of blind, stupid, ignorance. The only way to ever reach the ignorant people is to show humility and compassion without ever being upset. The blog should be made more popular to help educate intelligent thiests and athiests who dont quite know what they really beleive. I never find myself disagreeing with anything you post.

Thank you for the kind words! I don’t know that I’d say I was tolerant of blind ignorance, but I don’t condemn people who are ignorant — I just try and help them get more information. Heck, there are plenty of things I’m ignorant about and I’m happy to learn from others.

I do get upset sometimes, and I occasionally am not as tolerant as I would like to be, but I do my best. I agree that the best way to share ideas is to be polite, calm, and understanding. I wish there were more of that in the world.

While I don’t agree with your viewpoint about religion, I have found your perspective incredibly well presented and have enjoyed reading about a philosophical perception that is so opposite mine.

That, and I thoroughly enjoy the remarks you so enthusiastically post in response to “vile hate mail.” Seriously, I appreciate the witticisms, and even us religious-folk (if that’s an appropriate term, but who really strives to be politically correct nowadays anyways?) have to laugh at some of our own “kind” sometimes. Especially those who lack the common courtesy to understand that there are people who view the world differently than they do–a principle that, had they been paying attention in Sunday school, is a core belief inmost religion.

Dear iamanatheist.com, I have seen many things in my years of wandering this delightful internet, and yet I have still failed to find anything as enlightening and awesome as this page. I have, as of about a month ago, given up arguing against theists and their ranting and raving, and have begun quietly taunting them in my own way – such as making this site the homepage on several campus computers. Although I hesitate to speak in absolutes, I certainly welcome the compliment!

While you and I do not share the same beliefs, I appreciate your eloquence in expressing that all are entitled to their own opinions in religion. That is a seemingly rare quality among both atheists and theists.I especially appreciate when atheists can recognize that not all science is concrete.

As a Christian, I do my best to advocate free-mindedness and acceptance, not assimilation (to each their own).

A statement of Dave Berry is one of particular importance to my way of thinking: “People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.” I have seen this truth in nearly every religious environment I have experienced, so I can understand much of these people’s frustration with religion as I read this site. I respect your opinions and whatever you believe, but for the record, I believe that my god loves ya no matter what you choose. It’s no person’s place to judge you or your beliefs… “judge not lest ye be judged”.

As for the endless supply of hate mail that I see here, every persuasion has those who will utilize beliefs as a tool to express their contempt for anyone who is different, but we’re not all that way. Best of luck to you.
