I am no longer updating these pages. If you want to read current correspondence (and my responses), take a look at the IAmAnAtheist Blog. Thanks!
ive read some of these arguments and what not. man you REALLY contradict yourself on ALOT of your answers. Plus it really doesn't matter what YOU believe, the crucifix was a historical event and God was IN Jesus and Jesus is God in the human form. As for atheists the only reason you guys dont believe is 'cause you had a bad childhood or you guys obviously dont care about anything or choose to believe in anything because you want to take the easy way out of things. What reward is there in that? all you do is feel sorry for yourselves and use your feelings as your own God. I dont like hearing people say theres no God because 1. you obviously havent done your researching very well. 2. you want to go against something and be your own person. when infact you can be and have your own relationship with God. 3. your ignorant on the topic and choose the easy way out like i said before. i've had arguments like this before and ive won all the time. so you cant say theres no God when you have nothing to back it up with.
as a product of evoloution I use my highly developed brain to thouroghly applaud this site. Thank the second law of thermodynamics not actually applying to evoloution because evoloution is not a closed system for sensible people. I sugest you place the full second law somewhere prominent on your site to prove that evoloution does not in fact defy it. The more people who realise this, the less idiots will come up to me to challenge me about evoloution using that fucking stupid, uneducated, just plain wrong argument, so the less I have to punch. Which is good because my knuckles are really startin to hurt.
While I am not an athiest, I understand and cherish many of the points put forth here. While I do believe there is some "higher power"(for lack of a better phrase)I dont believe "it" cares diddly squat about day to day human or extra human affairs. I cant believe that something powerful enugh to spark creation spends his time dicking around in our affairs. Any one who needs to be told by god not to kill his neighbors or diddle his or her own parent needs serious help.
Just some FYI's.
1.) In your "Arguments Against" page, you mentioned that Hitler was an atheist. In fact, he was a Christian and used religion to justify many of his decisions. Look at some on-line speech/quote collections and you will find some of his "justifications" for the "Final Solution".
2.) The founding fathers did not intend this nation to be Christian. In fact, several of them advocated for the strong separation of church and state after experiencing the religious turmoil in Europe. George Washington even made a speech advocating for the equal representation in the U.S. of Muslims and Christians. Thomas Jefferson said religion was the worst thing ever created by man.
Thanks for writing. I never mind being reminded why I love Jefferson so much.
I guess I am more of an agnostic than a complete atheist but I do strongly lean toward atheism. The current regime in power in the US has done more to convince me that not only is there no God but that the concept has always been an excuse to do pure EVIL in the name of good. The Bible does say about people doing things in Gods name that "By their fruits you shall know them." But then I have also found that for the most part the people, like myself, who seem to know more about the Bible (and Koran, Bagavad Gita, Upanishads, and "holy writings" from many other religions) than the so-called followers of that religion, also seem to lean more towards athesim or at least agnosticism. By the way I do think that the Taoist writings and many of the books of the Toltecs and Buddhists (which don't have gods) are far better (and nicer really) than the Theists who all preach peace and love and death to everybody else. I found your site entertaining and (should I say it) enlightening. Keep up the good work.
Having visited this site, you can now go ahead and call yourself an atheist. It's okay to be an athiest who says "I don't think there is a god" as opposed to one that says "there is no god." Maybe you'd be more comfortable with that? (I know I am.)
As a Christian, I found your snappy Atheist answers to some Theistic / Christian statements pretty amusing. I'm not a biblical literalist, though.
Thanks for writing. It's always nice to hear from a Christian who isn't threatening me or calling me a moron. Why can't all religious people be like you?
Absolutely fantastic site! I love the satire, the humor, and the very logical answers to a wide variety of interesting questions. I didn't find a single point or argument that did not fall into my personal belief (or lack thereof) system. I particularly enjoyed the long-winded point/counterpoint by an obvious extremist. And I STILL have yet to see a new argument in support of the existence of god.
I recently told my Christian mother about my atheism. Big mistake. She is now sending me literature by Christians who are scientists, as a way to appeal to my own background as a chemist and astronomer. I've asked her to agree to read my material if I read hers. No reply yet.
Why do Christians have such a difficult time leaving us alone? Wouldn't you prefer if they took their "care and concern for your soul" elsewhere? Well, I would. At the very least, if they insist on attempting to save my soul, I should have equal airtime for relieving them of their probable delusions, or at least to attempt to convince them to start looking at the world through critical eyes. I can dream, can't I?
Atheism can be difficult on parents, it's true. Both of mine had a hard time with my "rejection of the church." But now, a couple decades later, they're both atheists, so there is hope for you yet.
I've read many of the "scientific" books on religion, and found them entertaining for all the wrong reasons. You might give them a try, but I suggest that you first ask your mom to read them and then only recommend them if she found them convincing. Then, after you've read the book, you can ask her what arguments she found compelling and tell her why you found them shallow, misleading, illogical, unfactual, or just plain wrong.
I completely agree with you about "equal air time." I recently read a book that talked about how Christianity was being "attacked" because a child was not allowed to pass religious messages out to classmates in a public school. Can you imagine the uproar if an atheist child started passing out literature? Sheesh!
As a concept, I don't mind Christians trying to "save my soul." At least, those who are (in their mind, at least) sincerely trying to help me don't bother me. It's the ones who seem to take it as a personal insult that I am an atheist that sometimes get on my nerves. When I'm not being entertained by their silly arguments, that is.
What a sad, sad website. I feel sorry for people like you.
What are you talking about -- it's a happy site!
You seem like a smart person. I'm surprised you bothered.
By the way here's my 2p i was watching a zombie mavie and was reminded of how religion spreads. Its like one zombie infects another.
I hope you enjoy your life while it lasts. The way you're acting now you'll burn in Hell for eternity when it's over.
If you knew for one second what Hell was like you'd stop your life of hatred and misery and accept God's love. Even if you deny it now you are going to find out the truth when you meet Jesus. You may deny him now when you appear before him you will kneel at his feet. You will beg for forgivness then, but that will be far too late and you will have missed your chance. The last thing you will hear is "Depart from me, ye accursed, into everlasting fire" as you are sent to the punishment you deserve for your immorality and the disrespect you show for your lord.
You may have in your mind the image of hell that Satan promotes through his influence of the liberal media. A comedy show hell where you can hang out with your friends and have a good laugh. The kind of fictional Hell seen in all kinds of silly films that make it look like a fun party. I've actually heard people say that they'd rather be in Hell with people like Ghandi, Darwin, Einstein and their friends and family than go to heaven with a "bunch of Christian zealots". They don't understand the punishment of Hell at all, there will be no happy reunion with friends and family, or time for stimulating discussion with historical figures.
Instead it is simply constant agony beyond anything that the physical human body can experience. A place of perfect misery and pain to contrast with the perfect paradise of heaven. Think of the last time you burned your finger on something while cooking, painful wasn't it? Just try to imagine your whole body in pain a million, million, million times worse than that, pain that never stops or diminishes at all for all of eternity. The worst tortures in human history would be pure joy compared with a fraction of a second of Hell. I think the worst thing about being in Hell will be knowing that the agony will never end, even if the universe comes to an end billions of years from now you will still be suffering in Hell. Your nerves can never burn out, you can never get used to the pain and you will know that you could have avoided that fate so easily. Just try to imagine suffering that while knowing that one little decision could have saved you.
God loves you more than you can imagine and offers you perfect salvation, he can wash away the sins that are leading you to eternal Hell fire. All you have to do is stop your immature rebellion against God and accept Jesus as your savior. You can do it now, Christmas and the New Year is the perfect time to turn your life around. Turn away from Satan and the temptations of the material world, your time on this world is just a blink of the eye, think of where you will spend eternity. Don't let Satan trick you into an eternity of torture when God wants you to enjoy an eternity of paradise worshipping him is heaven!
Life of hatred and misery? Beliving that I'll go to a hell where I can hang out with my friends? Belief in a god who loves me more than I can imagine but will make be burn my finger a million, million, million times if everyone's arguments for his existence aren't compelling. Buddy, I don't know who you're writing to, but it isn't me?
I use to be a catholic, but i stop going to mas about 20 years ago, I really never thought if there was a god or not, I use to speak to my imaginary friend once in a while, but never to ask him for anything, also I came to realize that the fucking church are terrorist, Why?? because the fuck up our minds since we are kids trying to make us follow their doctrine buy terrorizing us with thoughts about going to hell, also after a few months of reading all about the bible, I just cant get it how people can be so stupid, people can invent a big story on how the earth was build only in a few words, while science have tons and tons of information. anyway, happy vacation and happy new year
Are you telling me that.........I....I'm a monkey? The world and universe just "happened"? I wonder if I smashed into your car or other treasured object, and told you I did'nt do it, it just "happened", would you believe me? Selfish humans! You want everything now. You even DEMAND that God appear to satisfy your curiousity immediately. Next time I get drunk and smash into a tree, I wonder if I should believe it is nothing but a happy accident? Well, I guess it would be a happy accident......until I hit the tree.
YOU PEOPLE ARE WILL GO TO HELL THIS PATHETIC SITE SHOULD BE@REMOVED OFF THE NET.COM
you people are jokers. They should put you in cages and ship you off this continent onto a fucking island and let you starve to death so you can reach your goals of going to hell. eheheheeehheh you pathetic animals....fuck you and suck your own dicks.
Thanks! Your website has provided me many happy hours of entertainment. I have a thought that I would like to share....IF there was a higher power (god) and his opposite (satan) who do you think was more likely to have written the bible? Who would write a book that could cause war and strife among friends, families and nations for hundreds of years? A book that could cause the "righteous" to murder and torture anyone they chose. A book that some hide behind even today to justify hatred, bigotry and worse. Hmmmmm....anyway you'd have to believe in gods and all that for this to be valid but it's good to stretch your imagination now and then. Thanks again, I will back again to read more.
I can't answer that question without knowing more about what this higher power and his opposite are like. For all I know, there is a god and he's a complete jerk. In any case, this book you talk about sounds me more like something people would write. They do it all the time.
People who believe they know the Ultimate Truth can really piss off those of us who actually do!
I have read your responses to the people who have put so much time and effort into trying to save your worthless soul and am dismayed that you are not even willing to give them the courtesy of really considering what they are saying. Your arrogance in believing you know th emind of God is offensive to those of us who know the Truth and keep it in our hearts. You are not worth the fuel of the flames that will lick your sole forever.
After reading the arguments posted here it is quite clear to me that the people who are calling themselves christians have forgotten some of the basic teachings. As christian we are not told to beat people with what we hold as the truth. We are to spread the word of God and to share his gospel. We are to set examples with out lives. Trying to convince someone they are wrong will never inspire them to your way of thinking. Telling them they are going to hell unless they accept what you have to say will drive them away while they ridicule you. God did not ask us to blindly follow, he provided us with information to study and to learn from. We are to commune with God in prayer to ask questions of him to help increase our understanding. Just because we believe it to be true does not mean everyone will see it. To bring people to our way of thinking needs to be done through example and caring, not belittling and scoffing. When a person notices things in your life and wonders why you are the way you are, you share, when those instances are things they would like to have in their life they will ask and seek the knowledge that led you there. People find God in their own time, not your time. God gave us free will to choose as a christian you should respect the "God given right" to choose. Their belief or unbelife is not up to you, it is not up to God, it is up to them. Our only calling in respect to them is to share. So many christians have forgotten this, it is not a conquest, and game or a sport. There is no prize for converting more people than brother bob. If you would get off your high horse and let go of your pride in the belief that "I am right and your going to hell" You might have more of an impact on peoples lives vs driving them away with them venom spewing forth from your mouth. Do I believe that the author of this page is correct in her (I believe that I read in here that your are a female, forgive me if I am mistaken) thinking, no I do believe that she is missing somet g. But I will not tell her that she is going to hell becasue she still questions what the truth is. If she has questions I will answer them to the best of my ability, and I will explain why I believe the way that I do. But in the end the choice is up to her. If you truly are a christian then you cannot deny this. Free will is at the core of the christian faith, the power to follow or to ignore, the power to WILLINGLY serve God. In order to willingly serve the servant must choose to serve, not be beaten into submission by high and mighty wanna be christian fakes.
I think I'm right to say you accept the possibility that you (and I, since I agree with you) may be wrong.
Just in case, might it not be sensible to publish here a list of questions to ask any deity we might be hauled up in front of? For instance I would have some questions and pithy comments about planetary design (all those tectonic plates crashing about willy-nilly; neither elegant nor necessary). And what about all this genetics business - why does it go wrong so often?
Surely any intelligent designer builds in all the necessary checks and balances to make sure things work perfectly - especially if said ID'er is omnipotent and omniscient.
I'm sure others have better questions, which might cause such long discussions as to infinitely delay one's descent to the nether regions
